The Testing Context for Leland Students
Leland High School occupies a specific place in the San Jose educational landscape. The school's academic culture is serious, students and families take college preparation genuinely, and the school's college placement record reflects that investment. At the same time, Leland is not a pressure cooker in the way that some Cupertino and Saratoga schools can feel. That makes it a healthy environment for test preparation.
Michael works with Leland students across the full range of SAT and ACT preparation, from students considering UC Berkeley and selective private universities to students considering UC Santa Cruz, Cal Poly SLO, or specific CSU honors programs. The preparation plan is built around the student's actual diagnostic data and college list, not a generic standard from the schools around Leland.
The digital SAT's adaptive format is relevant for all Leland students who are targeting scores above 1350. Module 1 performance determines Module 2 difficulty, and students who understand this pace their Module 1 work accordingly. Michael explains the structure during the free trial and builds pacing strategy into the preparation.
The ACT's 2025 changes. Science optional, composite from four sections, approximately two hours total, make it worth assessing for all students. Michael evaluates both tests during the trial. For Leland students who have taken the SAT once and are considering switching to the ACT, or vice versa, the trial provides actual diagnostic data to inform that decision rather than having it be a guess.
