Pioneer High School serves a diverse San Jose community, and its students arrive at test preparation from a wide range of starting points. Michael's trial session is built to work from wherever a student actually is, the diagnostic gives a concrete picture of the starting score, the score growth opportunity, and the specific sections where each student has the most to gain.
For Pioneer students considering the UC system, test scores matter for merit scholarship consideration. For students considering competitive CSU programs such as Cal Poly SLO, San Diego State, or SFSU in selective majors, a strong score can affect admissions to specific programs. Michael's trial session includes a college-list specific conversation about what score each school actually needs.
The SAT's digital adaptive format is relevant for all Pioneer students aiming for scores above 1300. The ACT's 2025 format. Science optional, two hours total, is worth assessing for students who previously found the SAT more manageable. Michael evaluates both during the free trial.
The no-homework policy is particularly relevant for Pioneer students who are managing significant family and extracurricular commitments alongside their coursework. The program adds no time burden outside of the two-hour Zoom session. Everything productive happens inside the session, under timed conditions, with immediate feedback from Michael.
The Trial Session
The free trial on Zoom includes a diagnostic, direct work with Michael, and a follow-up call with both student and parent. Michael presents a specific recommendation: which test gives the student the best opportunity, how far their score may be able to go, a recommended training plan, and which upcoming test dates are most strategic. No financial commitment until both sides agree.
Every Session
Sessions are two hours long and combine individualized coaching, structured practice, and timed work using official SAT and ACT material. Students stay actively engaged while receiving ongoing guidance and feedback from Michael throughout the session. No homework.
The Guarantee
Students who complete the agreed program and are not satisfied with their results continue at no additional cost after the agreed session cap until they are satisfied or available testing opportunities have been exhausted.

Preparation timelines vary based on a student’s goals and starting point. Some students begin as early as January of their sophomore year, particularly those with National Merit goals. Many students begin preparation during the summer before junior year, with the period after July 4th being a common starting point. Students entering senior year often begin preparation during the summer before senior year, depending on their goals and testing plans. Michael’s free trial session includes a diagnostic and personalized timeline recommendation based on each student’s individual situation.
Several test centers are available across the South Bay and Peninsula. Check current availability at collegeboard.org (SAT) or act.org (ACT). Bay Area centers fill 5 to 6 weeks before test day.
