Monta Vista students who want Semifinalist consideration in California's competitive pool are working in one of the most demanding NMSQT environments in the country. The preparation window is narrow: the October junior year PSAT is the only qualifying test, and there is no retake. Starting in January of sophomore year is Michael's consistent recommendation for Monta Vista students with National Merit goals. The skills built in PSAT preparation carry directly into the spring SAT cycle.
The digital SAT's adaptive structure rewards clean execution in Module 1. Students aiming for 1500 and above need to understand how their Module 1 performance determines which Module 2 they receive. Michael explains this during the trial session and builds preparation around it.
The ACT changed in 2025. Science is now optional. For Monta Vista students who previously avoided the ACT, the calculation has changed. Michael assesses both tests during the free trial.
The Trial Session
The free trial on Zoom includes a diagnostic, direct work with Michael, and a follow-up call with both student and parent. Every Session
