SAT and ACT practice questions are readily available and anyone can work on practice test questions at
anytime, so why practice with a group? Practice testing with a group will give you several advantages as
you prepare for the big exam. Here are a few of the benefits of group testing.
Replicating a Timed Test
When you are practicing by yourself, it is not likely that you will give yourself the same time constraints
that you will face when you take the exam. If you practice as a group and have a proctor, the proctor can
hold all of the participants to the appropriate time constraints. You will be forced to practice working at the
actual pace of the exam.
Replicating a Group Setting
You will not be alone when you take the SAT or ACT. You will be in a room full of people. While the
proctors work to reduce as much distraction as possible, there will always be something going on.
Someone’s heavy breathing, pencil tapping or incessant sneezing can keep you from staying focused.
When you have practiced in a group setting, you can develop the ability to tune out others around you.
Mr. Test Prep uses a group setting practice technique to help you develop focus in the midst of distraction
so that nothing can draw your mind away from the test on the day of the exam.
Reducing Anxiety
Taking an important test can induce anxiety in any student. After practicing the test in a timed manner,
with a group, in a classroom setting, you will know exactly what to expect. Eliminating any unknowns can
help reduce anxiety. Practicing the ACT or SAT in a group setting will give you the confidence you need to
perform well, even in a high pressured situation.
Working on practice questions on your own is an excellent way to improve you knowledge base and your
critical thinking skills. Taking timed practice tests, in a group setting is the only way to get a real
understanding of what the exam will be like and how you will cope with pressure and distraction. Be sure
to take advantage of opportunities to take a test that simulates the real thing as often as possible.
