The SAT is a culmination of all of the curriculum you have been studying throughout your education. You should have encountered all of the material tested during your regular coursework. So if you already have the knowledge, why do you need to prepare?

Mental Preparation

The SAT is different than any other test. It is timed. You have to work under the pressure of a ticking clock. It is also very long. It requires mental stamina and focus for an extended period of time. If you have not prepared for these circumstances the exam will be incredibly challenging. You need to practice focus, concentration, and pacing. These skills don’t come naturally to many people but can be developed with practice.

Confidence

There is another important thing that practice and preparation will do for you. Practice and preparation will build your confidence. If you have never taken the exam before, you don’t know how you will score. Fear of the unknown and anxiety can impact your confidence. When you are feeling negative about your outcomes, you are likely to have poor outcomes. When you have taken the practice exam you know how well you can do. You don’t have any fear about what the test will be like and you are aware of your highest potential. You can enter the test feeling confident and strong. Confidence is one of the best ways to ensure earning your goal SAT score. Confidence is built through preparation.

Eliminate the Unknown

Preparation is king because it will help you perform well. Taking the time to prepare for an exam is the only way to ensure that you can put your best foot forward. Preparation eliminates the elements of unknown and gives you a confident familiarity with the exam. Don’t expect to cram the night before, or review a few notes from class and be ready for the SAT. Take a slow and steady, measured pace for preparation that includes full length, timed practice exams. A little bit goes a long way with preparation, and the more prep time you can put, in the better you will perform.
