These five study tips will help you excel on your next exam. Studying doesn’t always mean sitting at your desk and staying quiet. The more diversity you can add to your study routine, them more likely you are to find the technique that works best for you. Try these five tips to find the ideal way to study for your next exam.

  • Short Bursts

One of the best ways to learn new material is to study for short sessions on a regular basis. Review your notes for fifteen minutes every day. Do a practice problem, or write a quick outline for a chapter of text. Designate a few minutes daily so that you won’t have to spend hours and hours covering all of the information in the days before the exam. A quick review before the exam should leave you feeling confident and ready.

  • Talk It Out

Talking through your material gives your brain one more way to interact with them. The more ways you encounter material the easier it will be to recall it. Take time to read the texts or notes out loud. You can even take it a step further and teach it to peers who don’t know it yet. If they understand the material, you have mastered the concepts.

  • Move Around

Studying in different locations helps your brain develop more associations with the material. Studying in different locations will allow you to develop different connections that just may help you recall material on the test. It may also help simulate testing environments, preparing you mentally for the exam.

  • Write and Rewrite

It is easy to read, skim, review and think you have all the material memorized, but when it comes to the exam you can’t remember anything. Writing down definitions, dates and times, names, places, equations and more can help you remember them on the test. Write things down and then write them again until you can write them without looking.

  • Gamify

Make studying a game. Design a point system, make flashcards, or develop rules you have to stick to. Plan ways to level up and reward yourself when you get parts of the game right. When studying is fun, it will come more naturally and you won’t have to force yourself to concentrate.

Get creative when you study. There is no single right or wrong way to learn information. Try different techniques and learn what works for you.
