3 Tips For Putting Your SAT Scores Into Perspective – San Jose ACT SAT test prep tutor

Everyone wants to achieve an excellent score on the SAT. You may want to get the highest or the best score, but the idea of a good score can be very fluid, when it comes to the SAT.  Here are three tips to help you mentally process your SAT score in healthy ways.

1) SAT for Admissions

Your SAT score is a tool for being admitted into college. It is one of many factors that admissions officers will consider. Remember that as you receive your score. You have plenty of wonderful leadership qualities, excellent grades, and recommendations that will also speak to your ability to perform well in higher education. Aim for the higher end of the averages at schools you are interested in. Having a goal score will help you have something specific to work towards. Don’t neglect other areas of your academics for the SAT, they will count for admissions too. Be sure to have a balanced approach.
2) It Doesn’t Have To Be A Competition
The percentiles you are given when you receive your SAT score can make it feel a bit like a competition. However, you probably have very different goals from your friends and classmates and your SAT scores will help you achieve those goals in different ways. If you thrive on competition, go ahead look at your friends’ scores, it may give you the inspiration you need to do even better when you take the SAT again. On the other hand, if you struggle with your confidence, avoid the temptation to look at other people’s scores. Doing anything that might shake your confidence or make you feel incapable of performing better won’t help you achieve a higher score if you take the SAT again.
3) Who You Are
The SAT score is a tool to help you start higher education, but it does not define who you are or what college will be like for you. By the time you finish college, the hard work you put into achieving your goals and the personal investment you make in your higher education will be much more important that your SAT score.
Don’t agonize over your SAT score. Know what you need to achieve to reach your academic goals. When you are satisfied with the work you put in, you will be comfortable and confident about your score.
