How To Keep Your Parents Calm At Exam Time

Everyone panics a little at exam time. Future dreams of college and career rest on these essential exams. Students and even parents get the jitters when it comes to exam time. You can help your parents calm down and let them know you have this exam under control.

1) Study

There is no better way to show your parents that you are prepared than studying. Your parents will see the time you have put in to preparing for the exam and know that you are ready. If you feel like your parents are nagging you about studying, you may want to listen. A few helpful nudges might be what you need to get going on your test prep. Showing off your focused study will be just what they need to feel calm and confident about the exam.

2) Checklist

Nothing makes a parent panic like finding out their student doesn’t have everything they need before the exam. Save the late night trips to track down number two pencils, a compliant calculator, or worse yet, calls to try and find an id that will work. Go through the exam day checklist with your parents a week before the exam and make sure that you have everything you need. When your parents feel like they know the information they need and you have the situation under control, they will feel less stress.

3) Calendar

You may have the exam date on your calendar, but do your parent’s have it on theirs? You can quell any probing questions about when, where and what time by making sure your parents have the test day details on their schedule.

4) Breathe Together

Breathing is an excellent technique for feeling calm and relieving anxiety. It could be very beneficial to you while you prepare for and are taking the test. Ask your parents if they will be your partner to practice relaxed, deep breathing. It will help you prepare and will help relieve a little of their tension as well.

A parent’s concern can feel overwhelming. Keep in mind that they are worried because they love you and want the best for your future. Help them feel confident about the exam by including them in the details, showing that you are preparing and even asking for help when you need it. The more you include your parents in your prep, the less anxiety they will feel.

Stay on Top

Be aware of all of the possible test dates and which test date will work best for you. Be sure to find registration deadlines and register before it is too late so that you can get the test date and exam site that you prefer without any added stress.
