Staying Motivated To Learn

SAT Exam Tutorials San Jose CA

As graduation approaches, it can be tough to stay motivated. Once college applications have been submitted and major exams are completed, seniors in their last term may be tempted to check out and not invest as much energy into their classes and extracurriculars. If you are feeling burnt out and ready for graduation, how can you stay motivated to finish well?

The Big Picture

Forbes suggests that successful people keep the big picture and long-term goals in mind. Graduating from high school isn’t the end of your education. You still have your whole life in front of you. If you want to be successful, you will stay motivated to learn long after you graduate from high school and college.

Remember that even though the SAT or ACT is behind you and your college applications are turned in, your coursework is still preparing you for higher education. The things you are learning now will be valuable when you go on to college. College coursework will feel very overwhelming if you don’t engage with you classes now.

Long Term Goals

Think about your long term goals and consider how the skills you are learning and practicing now will help you accomplish those goals. If you feel like your classes aren’t giving you a good idea of what you want to do with your future, you should try job shadowing or interviewing professionals working in your areas of interest. Creating a better picture of what you need to pursue your passions will keep you motivated to perform well in school.

Small Goals

With the big picture in mind, set smaller goals for performing well. Do you need to review for finals, start research for a paper or catch up on calculus homework? Don’t save your work for the final days of school. You will want to have time to celebrate with your friends instead of digging yourself out of a backlog of schoolwork.

Dont Give In

You don’t have to give in to slacking off. Find what it is that keeps you motivated so that you can be proud of your work throughout high school and well prepared to move on to higher education. Maintaining a vision for the future will help you feel good about the time you are investing in learning.
