3 Ways To Optimize The Impact Of Your Child’s Learning – Menlo Park SAT Prep program

SAT Test Teacher Los Altos CAToo often students go through the motions required by school, without really engaging in the material they

are learning. How do you encourage your child to learn instead of just get things done? Here are three

ways you can help your child truly learn.

Eliminate Anxiety

Students are juggling so many activities. In addition to doing homework, they have to go to work, go to

sports practice, attend a music lesson and work on test prep. Homework gets glossed over because it

must be done as fast as possible so students can get onto the next things. As to-do’s pile up, so does

stress and anxiety. If you can eliminate one item from their to-do list, you can free your child to more fully

engage in the things they are doing. Mr. Test Prep does not require test prep homework because it will

only lead to stress and anxiety, which does not lead to learning and certainly not to good test scores.

Instead, students stay engaged while they are in their tutoring session. Then they can focus on exam

prep and not worry about extra homework.

Pique Their Interest

Find topics that interest your child and make them easily available. Bring home magazines, books and

journals that cover topics that interest them. Point out ways that the homework they are doing connect to

their broader career goals or passions. When students see how everyday homework can help them

achieve their goals they will be more willing to engage with the material and make sure they are really

learning it.

Tools to Engage

Give your student tools to think critically and develop thoughts and opinions. Use time around the dinner

table or in the car to discuss current events or even topics being covered in their classes. When you show

an interest in learning and asking critical questions, so will your student. Leading by example will give

your child the tools they need to think critically.

Lifelong Learning

Help your student engage with what they are learning, whether it is test prep or coursework. The tools

they use to learn subject material will help them in college and stay with them their whole lives. The more

engaged students are with their studies the more successful they will be.
